The British College of Aesthetic Medicine (BCAM) is the UK’s leading representative body for doctors and dentists practising aesthetic medicine.

The British Association of Medical Aesthetic Nurses (BAMAN) and The British College of Aesthetic Medicine (BCAM) are saddened by the recent death of Alice Webb following a liquid Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure.

As two of the foremost associations that represent statutory registered nurses, doctors, and dentists who work in the field of medical aesthetics, we have a primary duty to ensure the safety and reasonable standard of patient care.

This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for the government to action the October 2023 consultation on regulation and recognise that all so-called ‘aesthetic treatments’ are medical procedures which are associated with risk. For this reason, they should only ever be carried out by appropriately qualified registered doctors, dentists and nurses, and should only ever be carried out in premises which meet the required standard for medical premises.
