BACN: Becoming British Association of Medical Aesthetic Nurses

The British Association of Cosmetic Nurses (BACN)
By The British Association of Cosmetic Nurses (BACN)

An award-winning professional association for Aesthetic Nurses. A community united to drive standards, education, and support.

As The British Association of Cosmetic Nurses (BACN)  prepares to transform into its new identity, excitement grows among its membership of over 1200 Nurses.

Following a decisive vote by the members of BACN in July 2024, with an overwhelming 96% of those voting in favour, the association is set to become the British Association of Medical Aesthetic Nurses (BAMAN).

This name change, officially launching at the upcoming 2024 Autumn Conference, marks a significant milestone in the organisation's journey and reflects its evolving role in the medical aesthetic field.

The name ‘British Association of Cosmetic Nurses’ has served the organisation well since its inception in 2009, but it no longer fully encapsulates the scope and depth of the work being done by its members.

As Medical Aesthetic Nurses, the BACN's members operate within a specialised and developing clinical field that is intricately linked to disciplines such as plastic surgery and dermatology. The name change is not just about enhancing appearance — British Association of Medical Aesthetic Nurses more accurately represents this unique specialisation, emphasising the medical foundation of their practice.

At the heart of this change is the recognition that BACN members are not just providing cosmetic enhancements; they are delivering medical services that follow a rigorous clinical pathway. From consultation and assessment to diagnosis, prescription, and treatment, these nurses handle complex scenarios with a duty of care that is deeply rooted in their identity as medical professionals. The new name honours this commitment and highlights the advanced clinical skills and responsibilities that define their work.

BACN Chair, Sharon Bennett said, “I am delighted that our long-awaited new association name has had such overwhelming support from both our members and our colleagues across the sector. Our new name The British Association of Medical Aesthetic Nurses reflects what we do and who we are.”

The official changeover in September will not just be a rebranding—it will be a celebration of who the association has become and a clear statement of its direction for the future. The overwhelming support from members is a testament to the shared vision and commitment to this exciting new chapter.

In the coming months, members can look forward to receiving new, rebranded membership certificates, as well as updated material and assets they can share to their websites, social media platforms, and in-person marketing to stay up to date with association changes.

As BAMAN, the association is poised to continue its leadership in the field of medical aesthetics, with a name that truly reflects the expertise and professionalism of its members.
