Thread veins or ‘spider veins’ can impact your confidence. They may leave you unwilling to wear shorts or skirts in the summer, potentially stopping you from living your life to the fullest! However, you are not alone –  almost half of all adults suffer from telangiectasia (thread or spider veins) and there are treatments that focus specifically on thread vein removal.

How you feel about your skin and your confidence can have a huge impact on the rest of your life. With thread vein removal, you do not have to give up your favourite activities because of a fear of revealing your thread veins.

What Causes A Thread Vein To Appear?

Thread veins are small, impaired veins that usually appear on the surface of the legs and face.

Whilst thread veins are not usually painful or harmful to the rest of the body, they can be unsightly and damaging to your self-confidence.

As we age, the valves in our veins can stop working properly. As these valves weaken, or they become damaged, blood can begin to pool inside them. The flawed veins then branch out, resulting in thread veins.

Are Thread Veins Dangerous If Left Untreated?

Thread veins are in the same family as varicose veins. Varicose veins are larger, more pronounced veins that are swollen and twisted, making them bulge. Varicose veins can cause serious health problems such as deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolisms.

Thread veins, on the other hand, are smaller clusters of veins that do not bulge out of the skin and with modern thread vein removal techniques, are surprisingly easy to treat. They do not pose a threat and should not be painful, but if you are concerned that you have developed varicose veins, the NHS recommends that you speak to your GP.
