What Is Microblading?

Microblading is a manual method of micro-pigmentation, which is temporary and can last up to 18-36 months, with maintenance (colour refresh).

Here is a bit about the process. A consultation is held with the practitioner. On this initial appointment, taking a medical history, skin analysis, patch testing (with pigment and topical anaesthesia), elimination of contraindications, pre-procedure recommendations, and a treatment plan is all carried out.

All legal documentation is completed to protect the consumer and the practitioner, which is a binding contract and agreement. A patch test does not guarantee that there will be no allergic reaction, however, it does give reassurance.

Microblading is usually a two-part treatment with an interval of 4-6 weeks in between appointments.

On the first treatment application, it can take up to two hours.

Brow mapping takes place and agreement of shape and colour of the overall style. A topical anaesthetic is applied to ensure that there is little, or no discomfort, during the treatment, and a further anaesthetic gel is used during the treatment as a top-up.

During this appointment, a qualified practitioner will use a sterile hand tool and needle to create light-handed and fine incisions into the upper dermal layers of the skin from 0.25-0.75mm.

These incisions deposit pigment into the skin and create the simulation of hair strokes. The procedure is not painful, but there is a light crunching sound made with the incisions.

With manual micro-pigmentation, there are more advanced techniques available including ombré (powdering/shading), combination techniques, eyeliner, and lip liner. All were created with the use of different needles.

On average services can cost £350-£750 per session, dependent on the treatment requested and treatment plan. This can seem expensive to some, however, a good practitioner will have the expense of training, and components used in treatments, along with ongoing maintenance.

Like any procedure, there is an element of risk associated, and sometimes the desired results are not what the outcome shows. This can be attributed to many factors, for instance, skin and how it reacts to colour, client aftercare, and so on.
