What Is Profhilo? Everything You Need to Know...
Profhilo is a non-surgical treatment that addresses facial lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity. It helps improve tone, texture and hydration.
It’s a relatively new treatment aimed at patients who suffer from visible signs of ageing skin. Profhilo has quickly become popular among both practitioners and patients because of its effectiveness, and it’s one of my favourite treatments.
So what exactly does it entail?
Profhilo is an injectable treatment of concentrated hyaluronic acid – which is an organic substance already produced by our bodies.
It gives the tissue under the skin a boost of hydration, so the skin can regenerate itself more easily. This is integral to keeping skin firm and supple.
Profhilo isn’t a dermal filler. Instead, it hydrates and moisturises from the inside out, remodelling ageing and sagging tissue. This gives you a subtle glow and makes you appear more youthful, naturally.
Why Is Hyaluronic Acid So Important?
Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally produced by our bodies, mostly found in places like our skin and connective tissues.
Its job is to ensure our bodies get moisture where it’s needed most. Hyaluronic acid gives our skin the elasticity it needs to stay firm and heal.
The problem is, as we start to age, our bodies begin to produce less hyaluronic acid, This is on top of other environmental factors that dry out the moisture in our skin, such as sun exposure and indoor heating.
That’s why we need to find ways of ‘topping up’ our levels of hyaluronic acid.
What Happens During a Profhilo Treatment?
Profhilo uses high concentrations of hyaluronic acid, which is injected straight into the skin in strategic places.
The appointment takes about 30 minutes and I recommended having two treatments, four weeks apart, to get the best results. This can then be repeated as needed.
Discomfort levels are minimal, and there is next to no downtime after the procedure.
Best of all, Profhilo can be used to improve the appearance of a number of problem areas, including the neck and hands.
As a stabilised formula, the hyaluronic acid from Profhilo also lasts much longer than the naturally occurring substance. It lasts between three and 12 months.
What Will Profhilo Results Be Like?
Profhilo stimulates collagen and elastin production to help the skin naturally regenerate.
It remodels sagging and ageing skin to restore firmness, working on the underlying tissue to lift it and improve its elasticity.
You can usually begin to see an improvement after the very first appointment.
However, the full results will be obvious four weeks after the second treatment.
Your skin will appear more hydrated, healthy, and youthful.
Why Do I Recommend Profhilo?
I love Profhilo – I have it done myself and often recommend it to my clients.
You’ll frequently hear me talk about how hydration is so important to the health of skin, and hyaluronic is one of the best ways of giving skin the moisture it needs.
It’s a great alternative to dermal fillers, especially if you’re new to aesthetic treatments because it gives you a subtle radiance that looks natural yet effective. It sounds a lot scarier than it is!

When it comes to choosing skincare, the variety that’s available can leave you with choice paralysis.
Hydrafacial usually involves a six-step process but there are so many options now for all skin types, especially acne-prone oily skin and sensitive skin.
With the rise of regenerative medicine and treatments such as the ‘salmon sperm facial’ (polynucleotides) is it the end of the road for dermal fillers?
Hey, wait!
