The British College of Aesthetic Medicine (BCAM) is expanding its Dental Faculty, strengthening its representation and support for dentists working across the rapidly evolving field of aesthetic medicine.
As increasing numbers of dental professionals incorporate facial aesthetics, injectables, skin rejuvenation and other aesthetic treatments into their clinical practice, BCAM is developing its Dental Faculty to provide dentists with greater professional representation, education, peer support and opportunities to contribute to the future of the specialty.
BCAM is a professional body representing doctors and dentists working in aesthetic medicine, with a community of more than 470 medical and dental professionals. Its expanded Dental Faculty will aim to build a stronger network of dental practitioners within BCAM and encourage greater collaboration between dentists and doctors working across the sector.
For dentists, BCAM membership provides professional recognition within aesthetic medicine alongside access to GDC CPD accredited clinical education, peer networking, practice benchmarking and resources designed to support high standards of patient care.
President of BCAM, Dr Sophie Shotter says:
We see a real opportunity for BCAM to provide better professional representation for dentists, helping to fulfill both their needs and to signpost patients towards practitioners ethically working across both specialties.”
A professional community beyond dentistry
One of the key aims of the Dental Faculty is to give dentists working in aesthetics greater opportunity to connect with colleagues across the wider aesthetic medicine community.
Members can share knowledge, clinical experience and best practice with both dentists and doctors, building professional relationships beyond the traditional dental sector and supporting a more multidisciplinary approach to aesthetic practice.
Education is also central to BCAM membership. Members have access to BCAM’s programme of scientific and clinical education, including its annual conference, webinars and educational events covering developments in treatments, techniques, products, patient safety and clinical practice, with CPD-equivalent points available.
Supporting clinical standards and benchmarking
BCAM members also have access to the BCAM Annual Clinical Review, an annual survey allowing practitioners to benchmark aspects of their own clinical practice against anonymised data from the wider membership.
Participation supports clinical governance while contributing to BCAM’s growing evidence base, which helps inform its engagement with government, regulators and other organisations involved in the future of aesthetic medicine.
The expansion of the Dental Faculty comes at a time when the aesthetics landscape is becoming increasingly complex. Alongside established injectable treatments, patients are now encountering a growing range of skin rejuvenation procedures, energy-based devices and longevity-focused treatments, making it increasingly difficult for the public to understand the qualifications and standards behind different providers.
BCAM’s Vet It Before You Get It public education campaign encourages patients to check the credentials of practitioners and ask questions about areas including clinical supervision, insurance, product safety, emergency procedures and clinic governance before undergoing treatment.
For dentists practising aesthetic medicine, BCAM believes this provides an important opportunity to demonstrate their medical credentials and commitment to safe, ethical and professionally accountable practice.
A greater voice for dentists in aesthetic medicine
Through the development of its Dental Faculty, BCAM wants to encourage more dentists to become involved in the wider professional conversation around aesthetic medicine, from education and clinical standards to patient safety and the future direction of the specialty.
Members also have access to the BCAM Member Benefits hub, bringing together exclusive offers, discounts and opportunities designed to provide practical support for practitioners and their businesses.
As the role of dentists within aesthetic medicine continues to develop, the expanded Dental Faculty will provide a dedicated platform for dental professionals to connect, learn, contribute and help shape standards across the sector.
