Swapping the aesthetic injection for the Covid-19 vaccine

Dr Jo, owner of Cosmetic Skin Care in Windsor, shares her experience of being involved in rollout of the vaccination programme, after making the difficult decision to temporarily close her clinic during the nationwide lockdown.

What motivated you to be a part of the vaccination programme?

“As a medical doctor, I am so proud to be involved in the vaccine rollout in the UK. I was keen to be involved to do my bit to help us get back to our ‘normal lives’.”

“I work with such a great team and the mass vaccine clinic is really upbeat and the work is rewarding. As a practising doctor, I have a supervisory role as well as being a vaccinator.”

Dr Jo is helping to deliver the AstraZeneca vaccine, which is one of the main vaccines being distributed in the UK.

After such a difficult year, people across the UK are delighted to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

“One 90-year-old man asked to take my photo as this was the most important day of his life,” Dr Jo said.

To date, more than 12 million people have been vaccinated in the UK. The vaccine is initially being rolled out to those who are most vulnerable. The second vaccine is then received within 12 weeks of the first injection.

“It is thought that the first vaccine gives us enough immunity to prevent us from being seriously unwell and reducing the hospital admission rate. New guidance is ever evolving with this work.”

How have you coped during the pandemic?

“Coping with the pandemic has been a difficult time for most of us and has affected us all in one way or another. My way of coping alongside being able to go to work and be part of the vaccination programme is exercising outdoors daily, chatting remotely to friends and family and practicing mindfulness.”

As a closing message, Dr Jo said: “I hope to see all of my patients in my skincare and aesthetic clinic in the spring and in the meantime stay safe and well.”

How our clinic has adapted during Covid-19

Since reopening our aesthetic clinic, the overall running of our clinic has changed.

We are greeting our mask-wearing clients with a friendly ‘hello’ in full PPE, checking their temperatures and providing them with hand gel. We assess our clients with masks on initially, ensuring that we create a Covid-secure environment for both the client and practitioner. At Cosmetic Skin Care, we strive to make you feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible during this time. Whilst our glamorous ways of operating have been put on hold for the time being, it won’t be too long before they can return safely.

Botox treatments have been as popular as ever, with Zoom consultations available for those who prefer to minimise contact. The modern ways of communicating through video calls have led people to focus on their skin more and treatment areas such as necks have grown in popularity.

With a heavier than ever focus on skincare, we have been redirecting many of our clients to our Skyn Gym for skincare advice and treatments to correct their individual skin concerns. They have been given excellent skincare advice from our skin specialist, Nurse Lucy Cooper, who ensures clients use the best products for their skin type as part of their morning and evening skincare routine at home.

These are difficult times and as a way of saying ‘thank you’ to all our loyal clients, we have introduced monthly offers at Cosmetic Skin Care and The Skyn Gym!
