At my clinic, we are often asked what a Profhilo treatment can do to combat the signs of ageing and to address skin concerns, improve skin tone, texture, hydration and overall radiance.

What is a Profhilo treatment
What is a Profhilo treatment?

As we age, the production of the ‘scaffolding’ proteins of collagen and elastin within our skin starts to reduce, and many people find that skin becomes lax and wrinkles appear more visible.

The overall texture of our skin is also negatively affected by the physical ageing process, with many people complaining that their skin appears dull, dry, and lacklustre.

A Profhilo treatment can help to address these concerns.

It is an injectable skin bio-remodelling treatment that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin and helps to significantly improve tissue quality and increases the vital hydration of the skin and optimizes skin health, which is especially beneficial during cold weather and whilst wearing face masks.

Profhilo has also been found to improve the appearance of acne scars, by plumping out the skin.

How does Profhilo treatment work?

A Profhilo treatment specifically targets a 2cm radius of the injection site, with the product being gradually absorbed into this specific area. As a result, if the face is being treated, there are just five injection points on each side of the face to ensure optimal distribution and absorption of the slow release Hyaluronic Acid formula – a naturally occurring substance that helps the skin to retain moisture more effectively. It is also used for effective skin remodelling and treating skin laxity, not just for ‘filling’ lines and wrinkles.

Once the absorption process has started, Profhilo stimulates the production of four different types of collagen and elastin. It is this stimulation that results in significant improvement of tissue quality and skin tone, as well as improved overall texture, hydration, and radiance.

It can help to increase firmness and elasticity, and promote healthier and softer looking, and feeling, skin.

Where can Profhilo be used?

The beauty of Profhilo is that many body areas can be treated – from the crepy skin on your knees to your upper arms, décolletage and face.

If you have a Profhilo neck treatment, it will look like you’ve been bitten by a mosquito in a symmetrical pattern, but it will go down within 24 hours. We advise patients to bring a scarf to the treatment to disguise this as they leave the clinic!

Viscoderm Hydrabooster is more suited for under eye treatment, however, due to more movement in that area.

How long does a Profhilo treatment last?

Profhilo diffuses within the tissue after the injection and improved hydration and texture can start to be seen in three to five days, though older patients may not see a tightening of the skin until after the second treatment.

Profhilo is recommended as a course of two treatments (spaced four to six weeks apart), and optimal results can be seen four weeks after the second treatment has been administered.

The positive effects of the treatment last up to 6 months.
