Is a cosmetic treatment `worth it` - the RealSelf community tries to help you to decide

Posted on the 15 July 2015 at 09:36

Since being founded in 2006, RealSelf, which has its foundations in the United States, has sought to create the world's largest community of both patients and doctors (surgeons) who can share information on cosmetic surgery, dermatology, cosmetic dentistry and medical aesthetics through forums which allow patient reviews and ratings for treatments, as well as Q&A feeds for help and advice direct from medical practitioners.

With 51 million visitors in 2014, RealSelf.com has probably now achieved their aim and created the world's largest community of patient-generated, independent reviews of cosmetic treatments.

Patients from around the globe are happy to share their experiences - both good and bad - about particular treatments and products that they have experienced. Many even post their own before and after photographs to the site, so pleased are they with the results from their cosmetic enhancement.

Ultimately when a visitor posts a review they have the option to choose how 'worth it' the particular treatment was, taking into account the cost of it and the results that they achieved.

From all this data RealSelf publishes a simple ranked 'Worth It' scale. This can be ordered in terms of the treatments/procedures with the overall highest worth it score, or by the highest number of reviews and the associated worth it score, to give perhaps a less skewed view of which cosmetic treatments are being 'rated' as good by the largest quantities of global patients.

As I write this blog, the data on RealSelf is ever changing, as more and more people leave their reviews on a daily basis. Yet, let's just take a snapshot, here and now in mid-July 2015, and see what it reveals, both for surgical and non-surgical cosmetic enhancement procedures.

These lists are based on those procedures or products listed with the highest number of reviews and their associated worth it score, rather than simply by worth it score alone, which can suffer from 100% results for treatments reviewed by only a handful of people – i.e., not a large enough sample population.

Of course, as mentioned there are plenty of other cosmetic enhancement options which benefit from having received high 'worth it' scores but lack large quantities of reviewers to qualify the results, compared to more popular and mainstream procedures which are reviewed by hundreds and thousands of people.

As we are now much more savvy shoppers than ever before, whether it’s buying a food processor or looking for a cosmetic intervention, the use of online reviews from others who have ‘been there and done it already’ is a growing resource than many people tap into when researching their purchasing decisions.

As we grow and evolve at The Consulting Room, we hope that more and more people will share their reviews of both UK & Ireland based clinics as well as treatments, procedures and products with us, to help build this resource for those that come along behind them in their search for cosmetic improvements – including beauty, hair loss, eye surgery and dentistry.

Yah realself.com is one of the most popular community for plastic surgery. Lots of people share their real life stories there. From that community lots of people get informations. Even I also use realself community. If you want to get know about any hospital or any doctor or what will be the costing for specific type of plastic or cosmetic surgery then you must have to go to realself community.
