Face Lift Bungee: the latest craze for knife free nip `n` tucks

Come on admit it ladies, we’ve all sat in front of a mirror and put our hands on the side of our faces, next to our ears, and pulled them back towards our hairline to create an instant tightening of the skin and upwards movement in our cheeks and jowls just to see how much younger we could look.

In order to achieve this result on a permanent basis, most cosmetic practitioners will tell you that if you have excess facial skin then your only option is a surgical face lift. Younger patients, with less sagging in the skin can consider options such as thread lifts or skin tightening procedures with devices such as those emitting radiofrequency energy. But now a woman in American claims to have invented the most minimally invasive facelift of them all with the bizarrely named Face Lift Bungee!

Packaged in a jar the product is getting a reputation as a ‘facelift in a bottle’ by American media but this isn’t a miracle skin cream or topical preparation but something not much short of a Heath Robinson contraption to pull your skin back using the hair at the side of your ears!

The device, a piece of elastic between two small combs was invented by Kimberly Aschauer from Palm Beach who came up with the solution when she discovered that the cost of an actual face lift, so she could look good for her son’s wedding, was $5,000 and well beyond her means.

The combs are secured to two small plaits or braids created at either side of the ears to pull the skin backwards. The whole device is then hidden by the individual’s hair and can be worn all day long, or as long as you can tolerate it for! Marketed as an ‘instant facelift hair accessory’ the makers warn that headaches are a potential side effect for those sensitive to so called ‘pony tail’ headaches – I can’t say that I’m surprised!

Retailing for $24.99 in stores and online, no one can deny that this is an affordable temporary solution.

Interest in the device and its potential sales have led to requests from the makers of a U.S. style  Dragon’s Den programme for it to feature in their programme so that their self-made millionaires can fight over it to invest! Not the sort of product that I could imagine Duncan Bannatyne and Theo Paphitis coming to fisty cuffs over!

Whilst face lift surgery will always be the gold standard procedure to effectively and permanently lift sagging skin in the face(well for ten years or so at least until gravity starts doing its work again), there will always be a market for cheaper, simpler, temporary, no-downtime options. If you want a quick fix for a couple of hours to go to an event, can tolerate the discomfort of having your hair pulled tight and have $24.99 to thrown away then this may be the solution for you.
