Cosmetic Surgery Network Consultants A New Home Based Business Opportunity!

Do you want to break into the cosmetic industry? Do you want to work from home, control your own hours and be your own boss? Well it seems the Surgery Network (www.surgery-network.com) has the solution.

Aimed at stay at home Mums and people who want to start a home-based business, network-surgery.com is offering their “proven business formula” to turn you into an aesthetic surgery expert. 

Started in 2010 by current CEO and founder Victoria Cooper, the basic principle is based on earning a commission for every potential client you refer to a surgeon or clinic nationwide.  As a Surgery Network Consultant or Agent you will be trained to speak directly to people and advise them about any cosmetic procedures they may be considering.  Once the client is happy with the package being offered their details are passed to the clinic and an appointment is secured.  Once the procedure has been undertaken the commission will be paid.   With each booking the average commission can be up to 50% of the gross profit for the procedure. 

However, anyone thinking of buying into a share of the UK’s estimated £2.3 billion per year market will have to do just that – buy their way in.  The Surgery Network charges £1995.00 + vat as a one off set up fee to become a Surgery Network Consultant or £1495.00 + vat to become a Surgery Network Agent.  Both options also require an additional £15 per month. 

In exchange Consultants and Agents are given discount on surgery, marketing materials and training.  The site states that leads are primarily generated from their website; however an enquiry revealed that this was a self generation business where clients are predominantly gaining leads from the general public through other means i.e. publicity leaflets in salons and other beauty orientated businesses.  Although, the company did stress that this was not a telesales or cold calling business and was only aimed at those who were already considering surgery.   

Despite the current economic conditions, the demand for aesthetic procedures increased by 9% in 2010 (ASAPS).  Therefore, joining the industry as a self employed consultant might seem attractive - although the remuneration would be performance dependent.  The company claim you can potentially earn commission on aound 5 recommendations per month. 

As a Surgery Network Consultant you earn 50% of the gross profit of the procedure – usually around 10 – 15%.

The website boasts that no prior experience in the cosmetic surgery field is necessary which begs the question; when considering a clinical procedure, would you trust a recommendation based solely on commission?

I have read the site and enquired with them - it does clearly state in the packages that offers 'Marketing Guide & Advice To Generate Your Own Leads'. It seems like a Marketing Company that generate leads via the internet and pass them onto a provider/s. All of which on my investigation were GMC Registered Surgeons & Care Quality Commission Registered Hospitals which as far as i thought was quite sufficient. There seem to be similar organisation out there that have been offering a similar service for years such as NationwideCosmetics that simply refer Surgery Leads to a Provider in return for? I assume they receive something for these leads.
With the popularity of Cosmetic Surgery and with Celebrities having it done and talking about it, naturally its a competative market and with this comes opportunities for people to offer a service. I believe they do offer items within the package that have a value also, such as a web site, domain name, marketting material and so on. I must say I am on the fence with this one as I dont really see any issue.

Infact on reading your home page that clearly advertise Cosmetic Surgery Providers and I am sure you dont do that for Free??? Pay Per Click, Referral, Monthly Cost involved there????? It also has a large pile of £20 notes with Special Offers - recently BAAPS did call for a ban on Cheap Cosmetic Surgery Offers......

Dear David - thanks for your comments. The purpose of the blog post was to raise debate concerning different aspect of lead generation related to the cosmetic surgery market - which is why we posed the question at the end. Personally, I would agree with you that there is nothing necessarily wrong with the business model - but would pose the question that would a potential consumer of cosmetic surgery prefer to talk to a well trained receptionist actually working for a Consultant Surgeon where they could get more bespoke advice and information about the surgeon, where the consultations and actual procedures are done, and his availability. Also, one would imagine that the focus may be more on best advice rather than trying to get the enquirer in for a consult (as this is the only way the cosmetic surgery "consultant"- possibly a misleading word?) is going to get paid? Lead generation is increasingly challenging as our market becomes more competitive. The Consulting Room plays a part for its members with direct referrals through to their clinic alongside our industry information portal in the members area. As you have noticed, last year we looked at interfacing more with consumers who view our site to capture email addresses and interests. The aim is to look at using this to focus e-marketing campaigns for our members; however this will only relate to non-surgical (and non-prescription) treatments such as microdermabrasion, tattoo removal, hair removal etc. We do not intend to advertise cut price “boob jobs” – however, we can use the data collected to send out information focussing on open evenings & educational events related more towards the cosmetic surgery market. I have been to these events (some run by BAAPS members) and I think these are sometimes a less scary way for potential buyers of cosmetic surgery treatments to learn more about the procedures. With regards to the image used in order to attract people to give us their details – we tested various ones, but the money image produced the best result!

I agree, Cosmetic Surgery companies employ marketing teams and have them working 24/7 in order to gain the enquiries they need to sell their services to the general public, all this has a cost. They offer a Referral Scheme in many which is another reason why this seems to be a good option for people as why refer for £25 to £100 when they could actually make it a viable business and generate additonal interest. It does also offer a Network of Surgeons and Clinics, surely this is offering more choice than 1 Surgeon and its Receptionist - what if the client wanted a Female Surgeon? what then - its unlucky. If the patient has greater choice, ensuring that the surgeons are all registered then this seems like a perfect scenario. The more I think about.......it is all about the patient and making sure thay are the No 1 priority at the end of the day.
