Cosmetic surgery specialist slips into the red

A Harrogate-based cosmetic surgery specialist which counts reality TV stars such as Vicky Pattison and Lauren Goodger as clients has made a loss after a change in key personnel and "a deliberate slowing of growth". MYA Cosmetic Surgery was established in 2007 by entrepreneur and former Doncaster Rovers chairman John Ryan. It now operates ten clinics across the UK as well as an owned hospital in London and a rented facility in Preston. For the year ending 30 September 2016, turnover dropped by £200,000 to £18.96m compared to £19.07m in the previous 12 months.

Boom time for UK beauty businesses

The number of beauty businesses in the UK has risen by over a fifth in the last four years, according to new data from Barclays Business. Barclays has seen a 21 per cent increase in the number of small beauty businesses since 2010, in addition to a 24 per cent rise in the combined turnover of these businesses over the same time period. Nestlé buys rest of Galderma skin-care business

Nestlé paid $3.6bn on Wednesday to take full control of Galderma, the dermatology business that revives skin. Nestlé CEO Paul Bulcke will need to do the same at the unit to spur growth. The maker of treatments for acne and psoriasis, Galderma will become part of a new division known as Nestlé Skin Health, with a brand stable ranging from prescription drugs to over-the-counter soaps and sunscreens for skin, hair and nail care.
