Economic Worries Not Affecting Cosmetic Surgery Business

We may all be tightening our belts when it comes to how much money we spend on general goods and services but it seems that when it comes to cosmetic surgery, we’d rather tighten our waistlines than worry about the effect on our monetary bottom line!
 
That’s according to the 2011 statistics released today from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) which has audited its members and returned a 5.8% rise in the number of surgical procedures performed by its members in the UK over its 2010 figures.
 
A total of 43,069 cosmetic surgery operations were performed in 2011 with women accounting for 38,771 of them and men 4,298.
 
Not one procedure decreased in popularity, with all maintaining a slow and steady growth. Breast augmentation kept the top spot for women, up 6.2% from the previous year. For men, it was all about ‘moobs’ (man boobs) and ‘man handles’ with procedures for gynaecomastia rising by 7% and liposuction and male tummy tucks up 8% and 15% respectively.
 
According to Consulting Room adviser Rajiv Grover, consultant plastic surgeon and BAAPS President-Elect with responsibility for the UK national audit of cosmetic surgery;
 
“The continued popularity of aesthetic plastic surgery even through financially difficult times demonstrates that the public sees real value in the psychological and physical improvement that can be achieved.”
